How does the Trio connect to the smart meter? Follow

The In Home Display (IHD) is connected or ‘paired’ wirelessly to your Smart Meters via a secure Smart Meter Home Area Network (HAN). Knowing your exact home address, the identifying details of the smart meters at your address are retrieved, and the IHD uses these details to pair with your meters. This means that your IHD will only connect to the smart metering equipment located at your property.
The smart meter home area network is secure so the IHD can’t just connect to a neighbour’s network because it isn’t authorised to do that if it is within communications range (similar to your neighbour’s laptop or smartphone not being able to connect to your Wi-Fi unless the access code is entered). This also means that if you move home and take your IHD with you to a home that has smart meters, the IHD from your previous home will not connect to the meters in your new home – you will need request re-connecting it to the new meters at your new address.
