I’ve found this not to be the case. On multiple occasions, virgin media internet connection drop outs have resulted in me not being able to control my heating. This is made worse by me disabling the physical controls due to having small children. Leaves me with a freezing house. BTW I have a separate router that manages the my wifi network separately to the Virgin Media modem / router. Restoring internet access resolves the issue.
